Featured Business: PROJECT it event production services

Rob Woodhead, Director of Project it event production services gives YEN an insight into the company, incuding their recent successes and aims for the forthcoming year.

  About Rob

With a love for live bands, I’ve always been fascinated by how music is able to transform the mood of a venue or crowd; so applying this same concept to live events really appealed to me.

Through a chance meeting with an old school colleague in a local night club I met my now-wife, and her father had an AV company which i subsequently joined nearly 10 years ago now...I’m still here and the rest is history as they say!

  What does your role involve?

My role in the company has in essence, three elements: The first involves overseeing the successful delivery of our ‘Premium Product’ events. I manage a team of 3 Project Managers and ensure that we continue to exceed expectations and build on the excellent feedback we receive after our client’s events.

The second part of my role is acting as a Production Director on our client’s ‘bespoke’ events. This often means getting involved with a project at the very start, and helping the client by gaining a full understanding of their event requirements, and then suggesting creative and innovative solutions to help make their concept come alive. I’ll be their single point of contact through the build up to the event, and then will also be there on the day to deliver it with the rest of our team.

Last and certainly not least is overseeing the direction and strategy of the business with my fellow Directors and ensuring we spend time working on the business, not just in it!

  About Project it

PROJECT it are a family business, started 10 years ago from a garage providing projection equipment to local hotels and businesses. The company quickly grew and as were more service orientated than our then competitors we established ourselves as an av company providing full equipment packages for conferences, awards and road shows across the region – recommended by our hotel contacts who had experienced our service levels first hand.

This in turn fed into repeat business from customers who were using us on a national scale as well as bringing us in for larger events – hence our positioning today – we sit very comfortably between an av company and a creative agency – offering clients a range of products including video production, interactive events, exhibition build, theming, webcasting and delivering brilliant events

What makes Project it ‘stand out from the crowd?’

  1. Giving our clients 200% - always.
  2. Being innovative; offering new and creative ideas for ways to deliver content with maximum impact.
  3. Making our clients budget go further – unlike a creative company we don’t charge the earth for inspiration

  Recent successes at Project it

A series of events with a local bank, a re-launch of a super brand giant, an international event with a well known retailer, a staff sales conference for 600 delegates – we’ve been very busy bees!

Things that irritate you, personally, within events...

Those who don’t pay on 30-days, even though it’s been agreed! Is it too much to ask?!

What are the current issues facing the events industry?

The obvious one is the current financial climate and events being down-scaled, but it seems as though we personally have come through the worst of it having had our best start to the year since the company began in 2001.

What are the current trends within the events industry?

Clients are looking for innovative ideas to keep their audiences engaged  - that’s what we are primarily focused on – attract, engage and uplift!

  Forthcoming events

Summer is jam packed with events, conference  and awards  - lots based around the sporting theme with the back end of the year full of conferences, leadership and staff communication events.

What are the aims of PROJECT it for the next 12 months?

I see PROJECT it becoming one of the most innovative event production companies in the UK, while still maintaining the core values that have got us this far already. Not only do we want to be the best event production company to work with, we also want to be the best event production company to work for!
